Compasses, The

Compass Cottages

Compasses Cottages are situated on the junction know as The Compasses that leads up to Charcott on the one hand and onwards towards Chiddingstone Causeway on the other.

In an article on the Tonbridge Courier of 26 May 1886, the Cottages were put up for sales.

“Penshurst, Near Tonbridge
Within 10 minutes walk of Penshurst Station, S.E.R.

Messrs Langridge have received instructions from the Executors of the late Mr George Crowhurst, to sell by auction at the Crown Hotel, Tonbridge on Tuesday July 6th 1886 at Three o’clock punctually, the valuable FREEHOLD PROPERTY, comprising eleven substantially-erected cottages, most desirably situate at “The Compasses”, on the main road leading from Penshurst Station to Leigh, in the occupation of first-class tenants, at low rentals, amounting to £76 1s per annum.

There being a great demand for Cottages in this neighbourhood, the Property presents to the Investor an unusually safe and lucrative investment.
