James Taylor

Private 94424, 222 Company, Machine Gun Corps, Formerly 1875 Kent Cyclist Battalion. Enlisted ??? Died 17th November 1918 aged 25. Remembered on the Karachi War Memorial, Pakistan.

Born in Leigh, Kent. Baptised on the 9th March 1893 at St. Mary’s Leigh. Son of William and Isabella Taylor of Blackhoath, Leigh, Kent. Shown as family of seven sons and four daughters in the 1901 census.

Private J. Taylor, son of Mr and Mrs Taylor, Blackhoath, Leigh, has died from pneumonia and influenza while serving in India. He joined the Kent Cyclists over three years ago with his brother Fred, and they went to India together. He was transferred to the Machine Gun Section at Abbottabad, where he died on 17th November, after 10 days illness, at the age of 25 years. He was highly esteemed by his comrades and friends. Before joining the Army he was employed by Mr Drummond, at Palmers Farm, Penshurst.
